Donor FAQs

General Info

Giving Hearts Day is a 24-hour giving event for more than 600 charities across North Dakota and northwest Minnesota.

Giving Hearts Day encourages the public to find a charity to love, and the excitement of this annual event helps charities elevate awareness and cultivate donor relationships.

We’ve helped thousands of people from hundreds of area charities better tell their mission story, promote online giving, and lead conversations with donors, preparing them for a one-day “home run” and giving them a fundraising system they can use all year long. They’ve learned a whole system for attracting donors, building a sustaining donor base, and raising major gifts.

Giving Hearts Day is co-hosted by Dakota Medical, Impact, and the Alex Stern Family Foundations.

Nonprofits in North Dakota and northwest Minnesota with a 501(c)(3) designation are eligible to apply. To enrich our communities, we want to see all donations stay local. Additionally, we review all applicants to ensure that each organization is a valid nonprofit and prepares to run a successful Giving Hearts Day campaign by having access to Impact fundraising trainings.

No. Dakota Medical Foundation hosts the day, provides administrative support, and offers match funds to a limited number of health-related nonprofits within the DMF service area.* The majority of match dollars are raised by the nonprofits from their own donors. Every organization is required to raise a minimum $3,000 match for Giving Hearts Day. They raise these funds through their existing relationships, helping to build lifelong donors for their organization.

No. Dakota Medical Foundation — along with presenting partners Impact Foundation and the Alex Stern Family Foundation — has committed more than $500,000 in awards, incentives, and match funds in addition to covering all of the operating and project costs.
